Introduction
Knockbridge, which is situated 4 miles south-west of Dundalk in a rural setting of gently rolling farmland takes it's name from the "Bridge of Knockmill" part of the lands of the former abbey of saints Peter and Paul of Knock established in 1140.

In a field, on the Dundalk road one mile from the village, stands Cloch a Farmore the stone against which Cuchullainn though mortally wounded tied himself so as to remain standing upright on the approach of his enemies. It was not until a crow alighted on his shoulder that they could be persuaded that he was dead and that it was safe to approach him.
St. Mary's R.C. parish church in the centre of the village is worth a visit as it contains fine examples of stained glass windows designed by the Harry Clarke studios and Mayer's of Munich and a beautiful replica of the Clogher Cross.
